BURNSVILLE, Minn. - A trio of University of Mary tennis student-athletes combined to claim four spots on the 2016 All-Northern Sun team, headlined by two citations for senior
Sarah Janes. A pair of juniors,
Catherine Gibbens and
Meredith Holt, also received all-league recognition.

This was a resurgent season for Janes, who was hampered by injuries as a junior. The most decorated Marauders tennis player of the program's NCAA era, Janes was named to the NSIC singles first team. She also was an honorable mention selection in doubles.

Janes led the Marauders to their fourth straight NSIC conference tournament. Playing #1 singles for U-Mary, the Bismarck, N.D., native posted a 7-4 record in conference play. Paired primarily with Holt in doubles matches, Janes was 4-7 against conference opposition in the #1 doubles matches. She wan named the NSIC Player of the Week on April 4 after finishing the weekend 4-0.

For her career, Janes earned six all-NSIC citations. She was a second team selection as a freshman in 2013 in both singles and doubles. As a sophomore in 2014 Janes was a first team selection in both singles and doubles.

Posting a mark of 7-4 in NSIC contests while playing #2 singles and registering on overall season record of 11-5, Gibbens was named to the 2016 NSIC singles honorable mention team.

A native of Rapid City, S.D., Gibbens claimed the same honor as a freshman in 2014. She also earned first team all-NSIC doubles recognition with Janes in her first season.

A first time selection, Holt was named to the All-Northern Sun doubles honorable mention squad. The native of La Crosse, Wis., paired with Janes to forge a 4-7 mark against the top doubles squads in conference play.

The Marauders finished the season 6-11 overall and 4-7 in NSIC action. U-Mary graduated just two seniors and nine players return next season, headlined by Gibbens and Holt.
