The unusual incident took place in Kazakhstan's former capital city of Almaty.

Driver Raim Dadybaev filmed the consequences of the crash and uploaded it online where it has since gone viral.

It started when the Toyota appeared to cut across the Mitsubishi, forcing it into a bus lane.

The Mitsubishi driver then attempted to get her own back by cutting across the Toyota but lost control as she did so, hitting a guardrail in the central reservation.

The Toyota then drove straight into the back of the Mitsubishi, shunting it into the air above it.

Eye-witness, Igor Bykovskiy, said: 'The Mitsubishi was driving in the very right lane, then all of a sudden it swerved across to the left.

'The driver either didn't manage to calculate the distance properly or did it on purpose. The Pajero ended up on the bonnet of the Toyota Rav 4.'

Bykovskiy added that he and other drivers stopped their vehicles to help the women and that the Toyota driver needed help to get out of her vehicle.

But the driver of the Mitsubishi, and her children who were also in the car, managed to scramble out on their own.

Both women were checked by paramedics after witnesses called an ambulance but they declined hospital treatment.

Police say that officers are now investigating to determine who was responsible and that one, or both, of the women could face charges of reckless driving.

Almaty is the largest city in Kazakhstan and served as the capital until 1997 when Astana was named the new capital.
