UAE all set for lavish IPL party

Last Updated 15 April 2014, 20:58 IST

The seventh edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) gets underway here on Wednesday with a match between defending Champions Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders.

The cash-rich league had to be partially shifted to the United Arab Emirates as the dates were clashing with the general elections. However, after the first 20 matches from April 16 to 30, the tournament will return home for matches scheduled from May 2-June 1.

While the organisers will be hoping that cricket overshadows the alleged scandals in the last edition, IPL-7 promises to be a closely-fought affair.

The last auctions earlier this year saw many players being bought by different franchises, pitting once team-mates against each other.

Yuvraj Singh, who cost the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) a fortune, will look to right the wrong of the World T20 final, where he choked against Sri Lanka. At the same time, RCB captain Virat Kohli will be hoping to end Bangalore’s quest for a maiden title.
