Brett Wilson calls Canadians to action on pipelines

Mr. Brett Wilson calls the following points a 'rant in the making' that I'm re-posting here.

1. Montreal has rejected Energy East -- infrastructure that would move Canadian oil to Eastern Canada and world markets for the benefit of all of Canada. They claim there is not enough benefit for them, and are concerned about “tar sands oil” spoiling their beautiful province -- forgetting, of course, their recent 2 billion liter raw sewage dump into the St. Lawrence.
2. Eastern Canada imports oil in massive quantities from countries that have no concern for rule of law, human rights and dignity, or the environment (think Venezuela, Saudi Arabia and others). Canada currently IMPORTS 50% of its oil, and all of it goes to Eastern Canada (Quebec and the Maritimes).
3. Provincial and federal politicians seem to agree that advancing major infrastructure projects will create jobs, but they seem to be thinking primarily of bridges for local traffic and avoiding the obvious; pipelines for clear national benefit. Canadians need to find new customers for our energy. Supplying Eastern Canada will keep much needed revenue in the country.
4. Shipping carbon fuels by pipeline is infinitely safer and more reliable than by rail.
5. Some politicians speaking at Davos seemed to forget that we are indeed a resource economy, with resourceful Canadians employed to extract and optimize our resources; energy, mining, farming, fishing and more -- all GREAT resources for a great nation to share and benefit from.
6. Alberta is still expected, in spite of the significant economic hardships impacting the province, to continue to make transfer payments to "have-not" provinces, notably Quebec.

Brett's conclusion is this. The illogical hijacking of our fair and equitable national interests by environmental extremists (many funded by American special interest groups) will destroy our nation if the all-to-silent majority doesn't stand up soon. Ordinary Canadians need to call bulls*it and get back to what made Canada great -- pulling on the same damn rope.

Let’s challenge politicians at every level to listen to logic and ignore the very vocal minority submarining our great nation. Let's get back to BUILDING the great nation of Canada.

If we don't, we are going to lose Canada as we know it.

Well said. As an older Canadian who spent my career in the Petroleum Industry, I am proud of how well regulated the Industry in Canada has always been. It saddens me that the uninformed noisemakers are having such a negative effect on our intellects, and keeping us from moving forward as the amazing Nation we are capable of being.

Well said! We need more pro rallies and less protest rallies. Always amazes me how many people will protest the development of our resources when they are using products manufactured from the very same resources or recieve financial benefit/compensation.

It's time for a pipeline to the East Coast. This will create jobs and will keep the revenue as Brett spoke of in Canada. I do not see how shipping oil into New Brunswick is helping Canada. We need to start looking after the best interests of the Country. Let's work together to keep this amazing country moving forward.
