SHAWNEE, Okla. – The Rogers State men's track and field team competed in the opening events of the inaugural Great American Conference Championships Thursday night at Hurt Memorial Track on the campus of Oklahoma Baptist.
Seth Whittington capped the evening racing the 10,000 meters for the first time in his young collegiate career and put on a show. The freshman from Kansas, Oklahoma stayed with the lead pack for nearly all 25 laps around the track and turned in a school-record performance placing fifth in a time of 32:33.03.
Daniel Driskill and
Cruz Chavez began the night for the navy and red running the 3,000 meter steeplechase placing 12th and 13th, respectively. Driskill covered the distance in 10:42.96 while Chavez finished in a time of 10:54.35.
The Hillcats, affiliate members of the league, continue their first taste of a conference championship Friday. RSU will compete in 10 different running events and one jumps event starting with the 4x100 relay at noon.
