Fulton Market’s transformation from industrial food wholesaler to entertainment and hospitality hub takes another step forward as a new 170-room hotel shows signs of progress at the northwest corner of Lake and Green streets. Known as the Hoxton Hotel, the West Loop branch of the London-based boutique chain comes from Soho House Chicago developer Shapack Partners.

While a demolition permit for the site was issued in December, the existing low-rise buildings that formerly housed an auto shop and meat packing business haven’t bit the dust just yet. That said, the presence of new fencing in a set of reader-submitted photos is a clear sign that the aforementioned buildings are likely not long for this world.

The 11-story Hoxton Chicago was designed by New York architect Morris Adjmi with Chicago-based GREC serving as architect of record. When completed in 2018, the development will feature approximately 170 guest rooms, two levels of office space, ground-floor retail, and a rooftop terrace.
