Limerick Among 58 PA Municipalities Cracking Down On Aggressive Drivers

Police will be cracking down on tailgating, running red lights, speeding, and other aggressive driving behaviors throughout Limerick.

LIMERICK, PA — Authorities will conduct aggressive driving enforcement throughout Limerick over the next several weeks, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced Thursday.

Limerick is one of 58 Pennsylvania municipalities participating in the region-wide crackdown, which includes parts of Bucks, Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery counties.

Aggressive driving led to 1,475 crashes and 20 fatalities in these four counties in 2016.

During a news conference held Thursday morning at the Abington Township Building, several local leaders gathered to discuss the importance of the initiative.

The goal will be to target drivers who are exhibiting aggressive behaviors like running red lights, speeding, and tailgating.

The following Montgomery County police departments are participating in the enforcement:

  • Cheltenham Township
  • Douglass Township
  • East Norriton Township
  • Hatfield Township
  • Horsham Township
  • Limerick Township
  • Lower Gwynedd Township
  • Lower Merion Township
  • Lower Moreland Township
  • Lower Pottsgrove Township
  • Lower Providence Township
  • Montgomery Township
  • New Hanover Township
  • Plymouth Township
  • Pottstown Borough
  • Springfield Township
  • Towamencin Township
  • Upper Dublin Township
  • Upper Merion Township
  • Upper Moreland Township
  • Whitemarsh Township

The enforcement activities are a a part of a statewide initiative that will run from July 6 through August 26. It's a federally funded program, and is supported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

PennDOT says if you encounter an aggressive driver, get out of their way and don't challenge them. "Stay relaxed, avoid eye contact and ignore rude gestures."
