Men's Golf Eyeing NCAA Bid with 18 Holes Left to Play

LEADERBOARD

The nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College men's golf team stretched its lead to 25 strokes after the third round of the Empire 8 Golf Championship on Friday as the Cardinals shot a combined 296 at the par 71 Hershey Country Club.  The winner, which will be crowned on Saturday, will earn the Conference's automatic bid to the 2014 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Tournament in May.

The No. 8 Cardinals entered the day holding a nine-stroke lead after completing the championship's first two rounds earlier this season and quickly pulled away from the crowd.

Hogan Cuny currently sits in a two-way tie for first place with a three round total of +12 after shooting a 75 (+4) on Friday.  Thad Wier is tied for third place (+13) after 54 holes after completing the third round with a 79 (+8).

Corey Haas had a strong afternoon, finishing the round in sole possession of fifth place with a total score of +17, while Chris Blyth is tied for eighth place overall with 18 holes left to play.

Fisher will look to lock-up its spot in the NCAA Tournament on Saturday with the final 18 holes of the championship event.
