F
all Recruitment

Fall Cub Scout Recruiting or “School Night for Scouting” is just around the corner. Even though school is out, school principals and administrators are still in their offices through about mid-June. Here are some tips to have the most successful recruiting possible this fall:

  1. Go get on the school’s calendar now for a Scouting-only recruitment night to talk to the parents and boys about joining Cub Scouting
  2. In addition to the Scout-specific recruiting night there are two other great opportunities at most schools to talk to parents and kids:
    1. “Meet the Teacher.” This can be done during the day or at night and for most schools takes place in the late summer before school starts. Ask the school to have a table in the school lobby to talk with parents about your Cub Scout program.
    2. School “Open House Night.” This school event is normally 2-3 weeks after school starts and is in the early evening for all the families in the school. Even if your school won’t let talks or flyers be given to students during the school day most will let Scouting programs have a table/booth at this event.
  3. Talk to the school leadership about how your Scouting program can partner with them in service to the school by doing thigs such as:
    1. Flag ceremonies for school assemblies, concerts, etc.
    2. Helping educate student about citizenship and proper flag display techniques.
    3. Picking up trash around the school/playground or helping with other service projects.
Working with the school leadership to help show them that our Scouts and parents/volunteers want to help their school be a better place and to help make their students better citizens and learners will not only help our recruitment efforts but more importantly it will help our communities.

For more help and assistance please contact your District Executive who can put you in touch with your District Membership or Civic Service Chair.
