Lion King Jr. Musical (Friday and Saturday)

This weekend C. W. Henry will host the musical event of the season,
"The Lion King Jr!"

March 3rd (7:00pm) and 4th (1:00pm)

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 4-14

 

Pictures from the Luau

We had a great time at this past week's Family Fun Night Luau paying Bingo, limbo, making paper leis, and enjoying tropical treats.  Thank you to everyone who joined us and a special thank you to our awesome volunteers who made the night so much fun.

Pasta for Pennies

The pasta for pennies drive wraps up this week.  All proceeds benefit the Leukemia Lymphoma Society.  Don't forget to bring in your boxes.  Will your class be the one to win lunch courtesy of Olive Garden for raising the most?

Book in a Box

 
Students in Room 105 chose a book to read, represented important features of the book in their box, and gave a brief oral presentation to their classmates. It was a fun take on the standard book report!

 

Kindergarten Registration

Kindergarten Registration for the 2017-2018 school year begins this week!

It will be held February 28 through May 31, 2017. The School District of Philadelphia needs your assistance informing parents and the community about the importance of 
school readiness and kindergarten registration. Please distribute the 
English and Spanish Kindergarten Registration and Open House flyers to your 
families, staff and community members. 

Important dates:

Kindergarten Registration: February 28-May 31, 2017
Kindergarten Open House Day: March 7, 2017

Kindergarten Open House Week: May 8-May 12, 2017

Family Festivals showcase local and nationally recognized performance groups for an experience that combines the magic of the visual and performing arts. The Balcony Studio features art projects inspired by artwork in the Museum's collections.
 

Get ready to sail the Museum's high seas: Build your own boat, meet members of the Coast Guard, and sketch from a giant boat in our Great Stair Hall.

Around Town: Paleopalooza at the Academy of Natural Sciences

Every year, the Academy celebrates all things prehistoric during Paleopalooza, a two-day festival of fossils.  We offer new and exciting activities each year, along with our most popular and recurring attractions.

Auditorium Show: Feeding Frenzy
11 a.m.

Myth, mystery, and science merge in this live interactive show featuring music, puppetry, and a surprising look at the roots of paleontology. This musical introduction to the eating habits and table manners of the dinosaurs explores the paleolithic food pyramid. Presented by Field Station Dinosaurs.

Auditorium Show: The Ancient Sky
1 p.m.

Join Derrick Pitts, chief astronomer at The Franklin Institute, as he takes a star-filled trip back in time (and way into the future). Give in to the chaos of the cosmos, and spend some time in the prehistoric skies!

Auditorium Show: Searching for Fossils at the Bottom of the World
2:30 p.m.

Academy paleontologist Ted Daeschler shares his fascinating stories and amazing discoveries from his latest expedition to Antarctica. 

Auditorium Show: Rad Reptile Relatives: Dandy Dinos and Bodacious Birds
3:30 p.m.

The most popular reptiles are actually extinct: dinosaurs! And even though they have been gone for millions of years, their legacy lives on in their closest relatives, birds. Learn about reptiles through the ages, and meet some live animals as you explore how birds are related to reptiles. 

Jurassic Park Motor Pool

Meet members of the local chapter of the Jurassic Park Motor Pool and check out amazing replicas of some of the most iconic vehicles from your favorite dinosaur movies! The Jurassic Park Motor Pool is a club for owners and enthusiasts of Jurassic Park vehicles. Their global community of members includes both restored screen-used vehicles, screen-accurate replicas, and tribute vehicles. Built by fans, for fans!

T.rex Encounters

See a real fossil fresh from the field as it is prepared by our technicians in the Fossil Prep Lab. 

The Fossil Hunt

Have sharp eyes? Search for real fossils to take home. Take a closer look at specimens that prove that dinosaurs don’t have the monopoly on cool fossils!

Closer Look: Live Reptiles
10 a.m.–12 p.m.; 1–3 p.m.

Meet some of the live reptiles that call the Academy home, and learn about these remarkable relatives of the dinosaurs. 

Reimagining Haddy With Ray Troll

Visit our Drawn to Dinosaurs exhibit and see award-winning artist and all around fishy guy Ray Troll bring Hadrosaurus foulkii back to life right before your eyes. Basing his quirky images on the latest scientific discoveries, Troll brings a street-smart sensibility to the worlds of ichthyology and paleontology. He will reimagine the Academy’s favorite dinosaur live all weekend.

Drawn to Dinosaurs

See artist Ray Troll draw Hadrosaurus foulkii in our Drawn to Dinosaurs exhibit!

Fossil Club

Peruse the Delaware Valley Paleontological Society’s fossil tables and exhibits, featuring interactive displays, a touch table, and world-class fossil collections.

Meet some live animals that have been around since the time of the dinosaurs, and learn more about the wonderful ways they survive today.
