Science Over Stigma: A Symposium on Treating the Opioid Epidemic in Southern Delaware

In recognition of National Recovery Month, Science over Stigma: A Symposium on Treating the Opioid Epidemic in Southern Delaware will feature experts in the area of medication-assisted treatment and other evidence-based practices that are the scientifically proven best ways to treat opioid dependence.

Registration and continental breakfast begin at 8 a.m., with programming beginning at 9 a.m.

Registration is FREE and includes symposium materials, continental breakfast, and lunch.

Keynote Speaker: Yngvild K. Olsen, MD, MPH, FASAM

Dr. Olsen currently serves as Medical Director of the Institutes for Behavior Resources Inc/REACH Health Services in Baltimore City, an outpatient substance use disorder treatment program that provides a broad range of services and includes a health home.

Dr. Olsen has written and lectured extensively on opioid use disorder and its treatments. She has published in numerous journals, including the Journal of the American Medical Association, the New England Journal of Medicine, and the Journal of Addictive Diseases, on such topics as smoking in substance use treatment programs, the public health impact of buprenorphine treatment expansion, the stigma associated with medication-assisted treatment, and the dual challenges of pain treatment and addiction.

The Addiction Technology Transfer Center Network is a nationwide, multidisciplinary resource for professionals in the addictions treatment and recovery services field. The ATTC Network aims to unify science, education and service to transform lives through evidence-based and promising treatment and recovery practices in a recovery-oriented system of care. Established in 1993 by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), the Network serves the 50 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Pacific Islands of Guam, American Samoa, Palau, the Marshal Islands, Micronesia, and the Mariana Islands.

The Danya Institute seeks to be a leader in the promotion of health, education and well-being of individuals and communities across all populations. Since it was incorporated as a 501 (c)(3) in 2001, the Danya Institute has provided training and technical assistance to more than 9,000 community outreach workers, and addictions and mental health providers nationwide. This equates to improved quality care for an estimated 100,000 persons in recovery from the chronic diseases of addiction, and mental illness.
