PHILADELPHIA – For the second consecutive week, the Saint Joseph's baseball team boasts a pair of Big 5 Baseball award winners, as junior outfielder John Brue and junior lefthander Joe Manion were named the organization's Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively.

Brue hit safely and drove in at least one run in all four games this week as the Hawks won a pair of games at George Mason.  He singled in the first inning to score a run in SJU's loss to Penn on Tuesday before driving in three runs in each of the Hawks' wins at GMU.  Brue drove in a run in each of his first three at bats in Friday's 9-0 rout before his three-run homer gave the Hawks a lead they would not relinquish in Saturday's 4-3 win.

He finished the week with a .438 average, two home runs, three doubles, three runs scored, and eight driven in to go with a 1.500 OPS.  A native of Sicklerville, New Jersey, Brue currently leads the Hawks in batting average, hits, runs scored, home runs, RBI, and slugging, and is the Atlantic 10 leader in home runs and slugging through the games of March 29.

Manion was outstanding this week, tossing 10 shutout innings in two appearances.  He threw two perfect innings of relief on Tuesday, fanning three to keep the game tied early.  Then, on Friday, the Midlothian, Virginia, product scattered four hits and walked two while striking out three over eight shutout innings as the Hawks blanked the Patriots.  Manion allowed just two runners past second base and retired 11 of the final 13 batters he faced in the outing.

Last week, senior Stefan Kancylarz and sophomore Pat Vanderslice earned the awards, while Brue was the Big 5 Player of the Week on March 16.
