Trends
Michigan saw four consecutive years where the 4-year graduation rates improved, prior to the slight decrease announced Wednesday, March 22, from 79.79 to 79.65 percent. Graduation rates statewide have been on the rise, and dropout rates have declined.
Grand Rapids Public Schools, the largest district in West Michigan, is an example of this trend. GRPS' overall graduation increased for the fifth consecutive year. The dropout rate has also continued to decrease over that period.
The state also reports graduation rates for students who remain in high school five and six years. The 5-year graduation rate edged up .82 percent to 82.81 percent, and the 6-year rate improved by 1.42 percent, to 82.67 percent the 2015-16 school year.
