Two Illinois women have died from the West Nile virus.  They’re the state’s first West Nile virus deaths this year.

One woman was in her 70s, the other was in her 80s, health officials reported.

Another two Chicago residents with the virus have recovered.

Statewide, health officials have reported 15 human cases of West Nile virus so far this year.

Last year, 11 people died in Illinois from West Nile virus and 117 residents were diagnosed with it.

The virus can cause fever, headache and body aches.  Health officials recommend wearing long sleeve shirts and pants and using repellent that contains DEET when going outdoors.
