Ospreys: Tom Habberfield signs a new deal

Ospreys scrum-half Tom Habberfield has signed a new deal with the region which will keep him at the Liberty Stadium until the end of the 2016-17 season.

Former Wales Under-20s half back, Habberfield, 22, made his debut for the Swansea-based side against Exeter in October 2011.

He made his first Pro12 start against Munster in 2014-15 and says he hopes to have more opportunities.

"This is my home region... and the only place I want to play rugby," he said.

Habberfield told the Ospreys' website:, external "All I want to do is wear the shirt so obviously I've been frustrated at times this season, but I understand that those are the challenges any rugby player faces, whatever level you play at.

"I've been in and around the match day squad recently so hopefully I've done enough to stay involved over the remainder of the season and get some more opportunities."

Ospreys rugby general manager Andrew Millward, said it is "great" that Habberfield has signed.

"We believe in him 100 per cent for the future as a player who can do an important job for us," said Millward.

"He has a wide range of skills, and real potential to grow.

"He's had to bide his time but he's working hard to keep pushing his technical game forward, enabling him to become really proficient on a consistent basis at the top level.

"As he continues to develop, his character and his versatility could make him a real asset for us."
