Halloween is almost here and one of the entertaining activities for families in Las Vegas this year is visiting the Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay. It will be transformed for Halloween, and the animals there like the komodo dragons, piranhas and sharks will not be the only terrifying denizens around. The “scares” are ones that the entire family can enjoy, unlike some of the other haunted houses in town, suitable more for older teens and adults.
Mandalay Bay’s Shark Reef Aquarium at will feature spooky atmospheric music, creaking doors and rattling chains. The tunnels tend to feel a little bit less serene and comforting and a tad more…creepy. That is because Halloween is in the air and the Shark Reef Aquarium has been, itself, changed — into the Haunted Reef.
The hours and days of operation for the Haunted Reef at Mandalay Bay will be Friday, October 31 through Sunday, November 2. Friday and Saturday the hours will be from 10 a.m. – 10 p.m., while on Sunday, November 2, the hours will be 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.
Friday, on October 31, or Halloween, the Haunted Reef will celebrate the special occasion by granting FREE admission to its annual community day if they are wearing a costume and are accompanied by an adult. Adults who donate blood there that the United Blood Services booth will also be granted FREE admission on Halloween. 
Otherwise, the price of admission is $18 for adults and $12 for children who are five to twelve years old. For Nevada residents with valid I.D.s, the cost for adults will be $15 and $10 for children who are five-twelve years old. in either case, children who are four and younger are FREE.
There will even be trick-or-treating at the Haunted Reef. The annual event at the transformed Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay will combine the best qualities of Halloween and November 1, the Dia de los Muertos or Day of the Dead. In Mexico, deceased family members are honored on the Dia de los Muertos, which is actually a celebration that lasts three days.
The Haunted Reef will provide loads of fun and entertainment for both adults and children. Children can enjoy trick-or-treating at the Haunted Reef not just on Halloween, but through Sunday, November 2. The Haunted Reef’s decorations will pay tribute to both Halloween and the traditional Mexican holiday of Dia de los Muertos.
Mandalay Bay’s Shark Reef Aquarium undergoes this annual transformation, changing into the Haunted Reef, as a way to provide a fun and entertaining event during the weekend of Halloween and the Dia de los Muertos that people of all ages can enjoy. This year will mark the 12 year that the Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay will become the Haunted Reef. Fake spiders will drop down from the ceiling to startle visitors and guests can have their pictures taken with the “skeleton divers.” Join in the fun this year at this popular Halloween event and tourist attraction!
