Box Score TURLOCK — The Cal State Stanislaus men's soccer team picked up the much-needed three points in the standings on Sunday as the Warriors edged Chico State, 1-0, at Warrior Stadium.

The Warriors remain in the conference tournament picture with the win, improving to 5-6-3 overall and 3-3-2 in the California Collegiat Athletic Association with 11 points in the standings. Cal State Stanislaus is one point out of sixth place for the time being. Humboldt State and Cal State San Bernardino are at 12 points.

The top six teams in the regular season qualifies for the conference championships starting on Nov. 2 with the semifinals and finals at Warrior Stadium, Nov. 7 and 9.

The Warriors were out-shot by their opponents for just the third time in 14 matches this season. Chico State peppered 16 shots against the Warriors' sixth. But that didn't matter as Jose Ramirez scored the match's only goal in the 19th minute on a set play from a corner kick by Luis Hernandez.

Sunday's win over Chico State is the Warriors' first in the last six tries, snapping a 0-3-2 skid against the Wildcats, now 6-6-2, 1-6-1 CCAA.

Clint Long had four saves for the Warriors in net as he posted his fifth shutout this season. The last three Stanislaus wins have all came when the Warriors shutout the other team.

Cal State Stanislaus has three more regular season matches remaining — all at home, starting next Friday night against Cal State L.A.
