SAN ANGELO, TEXAS — Senior defender Victoria Perez (Rio Rancho, N.M./Rio Rancho HS) tallied her fifth goal of the season, but the Eastern New Mexico University women's soccer team (7-6; LSC 4-3) dropped a 2-1 decision at Angelo State (11-3-1; LSC 4-3-1) in Lone Star Conference action, Friday night at the ASU Soccer Complex. After receiving a red card early in the second half, the Zia played shorthanded for nearly 40 minutes.

With the loss, the teams have split the season series and the Rambelles improved to 10-5-1 in the series against ENMU. With Carrasco's goal, Eastern is the first opponent to score in multiple games against Angelo State, this season.

Sierra Anderson, the fifth leading scorer in the LSC staked the Rambelles to a 1-0 lead 17:38 into the game on a pass from Loni Byers. Angelo State held an 8-5 lead in shots during the opening half of play.

Just 5:32 into second half, Eastern was called for a hand ball inside the goal area, which awarded a penalty kick to the Rambelles. During the ensuing discussion, a red card was issued to the Zias, with an additional yellow card going to the bench. Ashley Exford connected on the ensuing penalty kick to extend Angelo State's lead to 2-0 and the Zias had to play shorthanded the rest of the way. With 22:50 remaining in the game, senior forward Alysia Carrasco (Albuquerque, N.M./La Cueva HS) launched a free kick from the sideline, which Perez picked up in traffic and fired a low shot into the ASU net.

The Rambelles held a 20-8 edge in overall shots in the game, but just a slim 6-5 lead in shots on goal. ASU also held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks. Fabienne Wilson (Sr., GK, Alamogordo, N.M./Alamogordo HS/Garden City CC) made four saves for the Zias, while Shantel Wittke made four saves for the Rambelles.

The Eastern New Mexico University women's soccer team will return to action on Sunday, to visit Midwestern State. The contest is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. MT.

Perez's goal was her second of the season in road games. She is one of four players to score in away games (Alyssa Prince, Melissa Moxley and Maurisa Jones are the others)

ENMU's last road win over the Rambelles came by a 2-1 score on October 31, 2008, on an overtime goal from Samantha Lawrence
