Born for Broadway, a nonprofit dedicated to funding spinal cord injury research and supporting individuals living with paralysis, announced the first round of casting today for its fifth annual celebrity cabaret, which will be held at the Merkin Concert Hall at Kaufman Music Center on Monday, October 13, 2014. Danielle Brooks, who stars as Tasha "Taystee" Jefferson in the acclaimed Netflix original series Orange Is the New Black, will take the stage alongside a roster of performers including Tony winner Adriane Lenox (Doubt); Tony nominee John Tartaglia (Avenue Q); Peter Scolari (Girls); Robert Petkoff (All the Way); Lesli Margherita (Matilda); and more. (See below for a full list of confirmed cast members.) The show will feature established Broadway and television stars performing alongside emerging talent, including individuals living with paralysis.

Tony-nominated director Marcia Milgrom Dodge (Ragtime) will direct; Lawrence Yurman (Grey Gardens) will be music director; and Rocky Noel, who has worked with performers including Liza Minnelli and Kristin Chenoweth, will serve as production stage manager and lighting designer for this year's show.Born for Broadway Founder and Executive Producer Sarah Galli created the show while studying theater at Marymount Manhattan College as a way to give back to her community, which supported her brother Jeff after he suffered a spinal cord injury. Out of its humble beginnings, it has evolved into a renowned annual musical cabaret that brings together advocates, Broadway stars, elected officials, and the public, all to benefit paralysis-related causes. Proceeds from this year's show will benefit Unite 2 Fight Paralysis, a nonprofit that supports international advocacy, education, and spinal cord injury research.

Tickets for the show are now on sale starting at $25 at bornforbroadway.com. Additional casting, including the host for this year's show, will be announced soon. For media inquiries, please contact Tim Price at tim@bornforbroadway.com or 917.880.8751.
