Work on the €233m Center Parcs Longford Forest Holiday Village is set to commence in May after the company awarded its first major contract for the development.
Limerick’s Roadbridge Civil Engineering & Building Contractors is to handle the infrastructure contract comprising earthworks, road and path networks, utilities, drainage system, the lake and building platforms. The holiday village development in Newcastle Wood will create around 750 jobs during the construction phase. Once open, it will hold up to 2,500 guests and employ up to 1,000 people in permanent jobs.
The development will feature up to 500 lodges, more than 100 indoor and outdoor activities, a spa, a range of restaurants and cafés, plus subtropcical pool with water rides.
Martin Dalby, CEO of Center Parcs, said: “This represents another significant milestone for Center Parcs in Ireland and I am really excited about commencing the construction phase of our project. We said from the very outset that we would be looking to work with an Irish partner to construct our new village.” He added that Roadbridge had submitted “an extremely credible and competitive tender”.
The process to select contractors for the two other major pieces of work, including the main buildings and the lodges at the village, is expected to go to tender later this year.
