A Harlem woman murdered in the Lincoln Houses two days after a 2013 mayoral race sleepover died because the city Housing Authority failed to protect her, a lawsuit charges.
Olivia Brown, 23, was stabbed and shot to death on July 23, 2013, in the housing project at 1960 Park Ave. — reportedly to resolve a festering four-year-old beef with her killer.
The dead woman’s mother Crystal filed a complaint against NYCHA in Manhattan Supreme Court seeking an unspecified amount of compensation for the late-night killing.
“The negligence of the defendants was a substantial factor in causing the plaintiff’s … injuries and death,” charged the five-page complaint filed Monday.
“The (killing) was caused solely and wholly through the carelessness, recklessness and negligence of the defendants.”
NYCHA issued a statement decrying the killing but declining to react to the charges.
“This is a tragic loss of life of a young resident of public housing,” the statement read. “The family’s lawsuit is pending and NYCHA can’t comment further while a legal process is underway.”
The five Democratic mayoral contenders — including eventual winner Bill de Blasio — spent a night last summer in the decrepit housing project with its lack of security cameras.
Two days after they left, Lincoln Houses resident Brown and long-standing nemesis Michelle Graham got into a scuffle that broke up around 3 a.m.
The ill will between the pair dated to a 2009 pistol-whipping put on the Mohawk-haired Graham by Brown’s ex-boyfriend.
Graham doubled back to the housing project armed with a knife and a gun, tracked down Brown and killed her, authorities said.
The victim was slashed in the leg and shot in the groin, hand and leg.
According to the lawsuit, “an armed assailant who was not a tenant of the premises was permitted to enter and remain … due to the negligence of the defendants.”
