An abandoned Sonic drive-in at Preston and Frankford roads will soon reopen as something else entirely. Spork, the new concept from former Mexican Sugar chef Eric Justice and partners Tim Byres, Christopher Jeffers and Christopher Zielke (think Smoke, Bolsa, and Chicken Scratch) and Pie 3.14 owner Sean Conner, is gearing up to open in early 2015.

The Spork menu will certainly be step up from the chili cheese coneys and Ocean Water the Sonic was slinging: Justice promises the menu will include burgers and sandwiches with unique sauces and garnishes, a selection of lighter fare like salads, and (hooray) a full bar. The Spork Facebook page offers a sneak peek at a few specific dishes, including bulgogi kimchi fries, a Caesar salad with a six-minute egg, and pretzel-crusted chicken tenders with chipotle maple mustard, as well as housemade pickles; the restaurant's Instagram depicts an interesting-looking brunch dish that features roasted Sichuan pork and sous-vide coddled eggs.

The target opening date for Spork is February 1; it'll be open for lunch and dinner daily and will also feature weekend brunch service.
