The Frankenfood creation of a nacho cheese tortilla chip in liquid form may seem like a figment of a stoner’s imagination, but it is alive. PepsiCo confirmed to the Daily News that they have been testing a “Dorito-inspired” flavor at colleges and universities.
Speculation started online about Dewitos after Reddit user joes_nipples (CNET is reporting his real name is Steve Barnes) posted a photo of samples of an orange-colored soda given out at a “Mtn Dew Dewitos” booth with the caption, “They were giving samples of this, it actually tastes like Doritos.”
Initial reports wondered if such a thing could exist. It does.
“We are always testing out new flavors of Mountain Dew, and giving our fans a voice in helping decide on the next new product has always been important to us,” a PepsiCo representative told the Daily News. “We opened up the DEW flavor vault and gave students a chance to try this Doritos-inspired flavor as part of a small program at colleges and universities.”
There’s no word yet whether the chip-flavored soft drink will eventually hit the market.
