Yoweri Museveni, the president of Uganda, says his country is a "better destination" for holidaymakers than Spain. He berated his own tourism board, arguing that the attractions go way beyond "some chimpanzees" and should be better marketed.
Uganda is a "good place on the globe where you go and have a nice life", he said, pointing to a favourable climate unlike Spain which is too "hot and humid" in the summer.
The president's comments have raised some eyebrows, but is he right? True the country has not done itself any favours by introducing a draconian anti-gay law, which might well be a reason to stay away. But what about Spain? It's not exactly a beacon of tolerance and progress – just ask Catalans, anti-corruption judges and migrants.
