Sam Moore was named Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) Defensive Player of the Week following her performances last week against Central Washington and conference co-leader Northwest Nazarene.
"I'm very excited for Sam that she's being recognized," said Head Coach
Brad Saindon. "She has continued to work hard and gets better every match. I think that she deserves the honor."
In two matches last week, Moore registered a combined 11 blocks and also contributed offensively with a .407 hitting percentage (14-3-27).
In Western Oregon's match against Central Washington on Thursday, Moore tied for the team lead with seven kills and also paced the Wolves with six blocks (one solo, five assist).
Two nights later against No. 17-ranked Northwest Nazarene, Moore once again registered seven kills to go along with a team-high tying five blocks (all assist). The senior outside hitter also provided four digs against the Crusaders.
For the week, Moore finished with 14 kills, five digs, one assist, and 11 blocks (one solo, 10 assist).
So far this season, Moore leads WOU with an average of 1.06 blocks per set that ranks fourth in the GNAC.
Western Oregon will play only one match this week on Saturday, October 25, against Saint Martin's University beginning at 7:00 PM in Lacey, Washington.
