‘HIV+ man’ burns his wife, 2 kids to death

The man claimed that he killed them because he is HIV positive and did not want them to contract the infection one day.

An HIV positive man from Madhya Pradesh’s Multai town burnt alive his wife and two daughters, and wanted to take his own life, saying he was worried about the stigma the family may carry after his wife also started showing symptoms of the infection.

The 39-year-old engineer made the revelation on Tuesday, a week after the alleged crime and claimed that he and his 37-year-old wife had entered into a suicide pact but he pulled out at the last moment.

The MP Police recovered the charred bodies of his wife and two daughters – aged nine and 2 – and a burnt car about 25 kms from Multai after the accused led them to the spot deep in a valley.

He told the police that he and his wife sprinkled five litres petrol each in the car while their daughters were asleep.

“With so much petrol inside it’s not possible to pull out of the car at the last moment,’’ Multai station in-charge S K Singh told The Indian Express adding that the police are not going to accept his claims without verification.

Festive offer

Singh said the accused told him that he had tested positive and that his wife started showing the same symptoms lately. She had not undergo any test so far, police said.

The accused said the incident happened after midnight on March 3. After his wife and daughters were burnt alive, he somehow managed to find his way up. The spot was secluded and the charred remains were not seen by anyone.

The family was on way to Chhatarpur from Amravati, his wife’s hometown in Maharashtra. Two days ago the accused surrendered at the Varud police station in Maharashtra after his friends advised him to do so. After committing the crime, he went to Mumbai and Nagpur before coming to Varud.

Constable Ekanand Bavarkar, who brought him to Multai from Amravati, said the accused had switched off his phone after the incident. Bavarkar said the in-laws of the accused were clueless about his HIV infection.

The accused had been booked for murder, police said.
