Girl stalks boy on social media, cops get complaint
AHMEDABAD: Cyber cell officials of city crime branch were surprised recently when they received a complaint from 27-year-old Arihant alleging harassment by a girl on social media — the first such complaint received by the cell.
Arihant — a young businessman residing in Anandnagar — has alleged in his written complaint to the crime branch that the girl first came in contact with him on a social website in July 2011.
"The ID was by the name of a girl with a beautiful display picture. Arihant was lured into chatting with her," said cyber cell officials.
Crime branch officials said initially Arihant liked to chat with the girl. They continued chatting for a year and even met in person.
"Arihant alleged that later the girl started demanding costly gifts from him. Finding this fishy, he started avoiding her and even her messages on social media," said cyber cell officials.
Cyber cell officials said Arihant has complained that the girl Priyanka was undeterred. She got Arihant and his mother's cell phone numbers and started making calls. This continued for two years.
"Now when Arihant has approached us with a complaint, we have recorded his statement and asked for the IP address of the computer or the device from which the weird messages were posted on the social website ID of Arihant," said cyber cell officials.
Cyber cell officials said this is the first time they have received an application of harassment by a girl from a boy. "Most of the complaints we receive are from girls or women regarding harassment from males," said cyber cell officials. "We have even asked call details from the service provider to verify the accusations made by Arihant. We have taken screen shots of the messages posted by the girl on the social website," said cyber cell officials.
