Evade police, property offences, Gold Coast

A man has been charged after allegedly failing to stop for police on the M1 at Mudgeeraba overnight.

It is alleged around 9pm police attempted to intercept a vehicle for a traffic offence on the M1 near Merrimac but it failed to stop. Police did not pursue this vehicle.

A short time later police came across the vehicle abandoned in construction lanes of the M1 at Mudgeeraba.

Police searched the vehicle and a quantity of suspected stolen property was allegedly found.

A search of the area with multiple police crews including a Dog Squad member located the driver of the vehicle in bushes near a shopping centre.

The police dog was released and apprehended the offender who sustained a minor puncture wound.

A 26-year-old Burleigh Waters man has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, serious assault of police, fail to stop, possession of a restricted item (baton), possession of tainted property and possession of an explosive (firework).

He is due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court today.
