Game Recap: Softball |

Knights Too Much For Highlanders On The Road

Glenside, PA - Cairn University softball traveled to Arcadia University in non-conference play on Monday afternoon where they lost both games of the doubleheader to the Knights. The Highlanders lost the first game 9-0 and the second game 11-1.

The Highlanders registered nine total hits across both games, whereas Arcadia collected 16 hits in each game. Tiffany Gower recorded the loss for Cairn in game one, while Kelly Hendrickson took to the mound in game two.

Arcadia opened up the scoring early on, with four runs crossing the plate in the first innings. The Knights built a 7-0 lead by the fourth inning and then ended the game in the sixth inning on a walk-off that put them ahead by eight or more. The walk-off was a double down the left field line by Amanda Hess that scored two runners.

In the first game, the Highlanders had four hits that were spread across four different players. In game two, Cairn was led by Keely Congleton who had two hits; both singles to center field. Jessica Piccolo scored Cairn's only run on the day in the second game after rounding third because of an error by the right fielder.

The Knights were up 4-1 through three innings in the second game and a seven-run fourth inning sealed the deal for Arcadia, ahead by 10. Two pitchers stood in the circle for the Knights in the game, combining for three strikeouts and five hits.

Cairn dropped to 0-12 with the losses, while Arcadia improved to 7-9 on the year with the wins. The Highlanders will play again this week when they travel to Franklin and Marshall College on Thursday, Mar. 2, to face the Diplomats.
