BUFFALO, N.Y. – Thousands of people turned out Sunday to help fight type 1 diabetes.

The JDRF ‘One Walk’ had a goal of raising $650,000 for research to find a cure for diabetes and its complications.

Almost 3,000 walkers turned out in Delaware Park for the 23rd annual walk. Eric Fenar said, “There’s really no time off with diabetes. You’re constantly on the clock; very stressful.”

Mackenzie Duffy also participated. She said, “We want to make a cure for diabetes so nobody has to go through the poking and prodding with needles.”

Many of the participants formed teams to support family members and friends living with type 1 diabetes; also known as juvenile diabetes. The disease changes daily life for some 20,000 western New York families.
