PROTESTERS ARRESTED IN BELLINGEN
Hundreds of protesters in Bellingen have failed to halt the cutting down of three large camphor laurel trees in the town this morning.
The Church Street trees, which are more than 100 years old, were felled to make way for improvements to the cafe precinct.

The trees were planted by Dr George Hewitt, who didn’t move to the Bellinger Valley until 1927 and didn’t start planting trees in the valley until 1929. Basic maths tells me that the trees are notover 100 years old.
