UPDATE: Dog killed on Tulsa highway was not thrown from truck

It turns out the case of a dog supposedly thrown from the window of a pickup truck on a busy Tulsa highway was simply a case of a witness misunderstanding what she had seen.

The witness said she saw the dog thrown from the pickup on I-244 near Memorial Drive about 12:30 p.m. Thursday.

But after an investigation, Tulsa Animal Welfare and TPD have concluded that the dog was actually running loose after straying onto the highway.

In fact, two calls had come in - one from a citizen, a second from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol - reporting the dog on the highway.

TAW actually had officers en route to the scene when the incident occurred.

It turns out another vehicle driving in front of the pickup actually hit the dog, which then apparently became airborn.

The truck may have hit it as well, but the animal was not thrown from inside the truck.

TPD and TAW have spoken with both drivers and are confident this was not a case of animal cruelty.
