With her evil piercing stare and hallow cheek bones this Maleficent looks like she might just turn into a dragon and start breathing fire.

But don't be fooled, while these pictures of Orlando Bloom, Angelina Jolie, Daniel Radcliffe and Cher may look real – they are in fact painstakingly repainted dolls.

Artist Noel Cruz spends hours painting the faces of the dolls, copying every pimple, hair, shadow and scar to make the uncanny replicas of some of the world's most famous celebrities.

Remarkably he has no formal training.

He removes all the paint to make a blank canvas, before repainting the face with tiny brushes, applying acrylic like makeup to each of the dolls.

The Californian artist even cuts, styles and puts mini rollers in their hair to create the exact copies of the music and movie stars.

And the tiny toys are so lifelike you may just mistake them for the real thing, despite starting life as a cheap doll from the factory floor.

Noel, who grew up in the Philippines with no toys to play with, has repainted Madonna, Jennifer Lawrence, Micheal Jackson, Marylin Monroe, Cher and Beyonce, to name a few.

He has even created a perfect miniature versions of the Duchess of Cambridge and Princess Diana.

Noel says his most challenging creation so far was Captain Jack Sparrow, due to his matted hair and beard.

Noel was inspired to paint from the moment he saw Miss Universe on a neighbour's TV as a child, and became obsessed with drawing each contestant's face in a bid to capture their beauty.

But despite his obvious talent Noel stumbled into his trade. He began painting the dolls in 2001 when he was browsing eBay looking for action figures for his wife.

Noel tells Haute Doll magazine, "On closer examination I discovered they were mass-produced dolls repainted to look more detailed and realistic.

"I was completely mesmerized."

Remarkably his first attempt drew no bids on the auction site, so he went back to the drawing board, spending hours perfecting the dolls.

When the second sold he had found his passion, his repainted Cher doll sold for $3,800.

The dolls are sought after by collectors all over the world. Noel hopes one day to model dolls of his own.
