Spain’s coastal resorts and the Canary Islands are the top destinations for the Easter rush as almost 340,000 passengers are expected to travel through Dublin Airport over the Bank Holiday weekend. Numbers travelling through the airport from Friday, April 14, until Monday, April 17, are expected to be up 12pc on last Easter.
“Over 2,300 flights are expected to arrive and depart this Easter Bank Holiday weekend,” said Dublin Airport spokesperson Siobhán O’Donnell. “The Canary Islands and Spanish coastal resorts are the most popular sunshine destinations this Easter for passengers in search of sunshine. March was also a record month and the 36th consecutive month of passenger growth at Dublin Airport.”
Good Friday is expected to be the busiest day of the Easter Bank Holiday weekend with just under 100,000 passengers expected to arrive and depart through the airport. Dublin Airport is also preparing for a busy summer season with nine new routes/services due to start in the coming weeks.
More than 5.8m passengers have travelled through Dublin Airport in the first three months of the year, representing a 5pc increase, or an extra 260,000 passengers, compared to the same period last year. The airport will have customer care teams on duty across both terminals at the weekend to assist passengers with their journeys.
If the rate of increase is sustained Dublin airport will handle 29.3m passengers in 2017.
