Many restaurants honor veterans and active-duty military personnel by offering them special discounts – or even free food and drink – on Veterans Day.

Locally, Botto’s Bakery, 550 Washington Ave., will offer veterans a free coffee Wednesday if they come in between 6 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Two Fat Cats, the bakery at 47 India St., will give all U.S. military, active or veteran, 15 percent off their purchase.

According to the National Restaurant Association, the following restaurant chains that have a presence in Maine will be offering specials:

• Texas Roadhouse will open early to serve lunch to veterans and active-duty military. All locations will offer a free entree, which includes a six-ounce steak, two sides and a drink.

• Applebee’s will serve a free meal from a designated menu with proof of military service.
