Going the distance

There is running and there are marathons ... and then there is the Marathon des Sables. It is a race so grueling and treacherous it might have come straight out of ancient mythology. Six days, 155 miles, set in the perilous terrain of the Sahara Desert. "It's like a Tour de France on another planet," says American Meghan Hicks, the 2013 women's winner and a five-time finisher. "Boy, that makes this race sound weird. Well, it is weird, but it's awesome!"
