It’s easy to be scared because this world can be a pretty scary place. Not only can this world be scary but there are also many lies that are passed off as the truth. Francis Chan, author of the popular book Crazy Love, articulates what he feels are the two scariest lies in the world right now.
The First Lie
The first lie is that “you are good person”.
Our culture is awash with a naïve positivity about human goodness whereby every funeral seems to commend the goodness of the person who is deceased. We also tend to engage in a subjective scale of good and bad deeds where we want to believe the good outweighs the bad. The problem is that God holds the scale and in Romans 3:9-12 it says “What then? Are we Jews any better off? No, not at all. For we have already charged that all, both Jews and Greeks, are under sin, as it is written: “None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God. All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one.” In other words, we are all on the bad end of the scale.
The Second Lie
The second lie is that “because you are a good person then God will not punish”.
This would be true if there was truly a good person. But there is only one good person and that’s the person who God sent to die for sinners. Yes, God is love but not at the expense of his other attributes such as His justice. Remember, that “loving” God did at one time flood the whole world and destroyed countless lives. Furthermore, the book of Revelation that speaks of a time in the future where people will be judged and many sent to Hell for eternity. We must decide what will be our standard for truth.. our feelings, our culture, or the Word of God. Watch this challenging video.
