Would you live here? Indoor sports arena for kids to go wild, a wine cave for adults

It's a guilty pleasure to some, a fact-finding mission for others, but wandering around someone else's newly upgraded home does draw a crowd.

Here's your chance to check out 10 polished, recently remodeled homes -- some with over-the-top features -- at the 16th annual Tour of Remodeled Homes in Portland, Lake Oswego, Wilsonville and Tigard from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, and Sunday, March 15. Metke Remodeling & Woodworking added 1,580 square feet to this Lake Oswego home -- about the size of the average Portland house.

French doors from the original family room open to a two-story pleasure dome with something for everyone in the family: A wine cave below and a top floor game room that an NBA player would lust after.

The sky-high basketball hoop and sport floor were designed to lets kids go wild. The hang-out area leaves plenty of room for dunking basketballs underneath a 15-foot-high ceiling and skylights.

The new structure is not only separate from the house but it has a sound-absorbing floor system and extra insulation to soften the noise of stomping feet.

Under the voluminous kid cave is a sophisticated adult space with a wine cellar, billiard and poker tables, pool bath and bar, spread across 800 square feet. Custom glazed cabinetry is accented with iron paneling and shelves, and quartz and textured granite countertops create space for late night poker parties, says contractor Jeff Metke.

The 12-foot-long Weiland retractable door system slides out of sight to blend the indoor and outdoor spaces. Here, or from the second-floor deck above, is a view of the large pool, masonry fireplace and landscaped courtyard.
