To understand the power in an entrepreneurial dream we will want to first understand the dreamer. Og Mandino in his best selling book, The Greatest Salesman in the World, provides the following insight.
“Within me burns a flame passed down from generations uncounted and its heat is a constant irritation to my spirit to be better than I am. I will fan these flames of dissatisfaction and proclaim my uniqueness to the world.”
A few paragraphs later, Og punctuates this emphatic statement with the following encouragement.
“I am on this earth for a purpose and that purpose is to grow into a mountain not shrink to a grain of sand. Henceforth I will apply all of my ability to become the highest mountain of all and I will strain my potential until it cries for mercy.”
Entrepreneurs do not shy away from the hard task. They do not ask for life to be easy. Instead, they seek to acquire ability to handle ever-increasing levels of stress with ever increasing levels of ease. The creation of dreams requires this.
Entrepreneurs live and grow by adhering to five guidelines:
1. Engage in life: I take every challenge head on and learn the valuable lesson being taught.
2. Embrace principles: I have integrity and my intention is mutual benefit in all that I do.
3. Connect and serve: I master the art of connection and use love as my greatest weapon.
4. Create value: I create value everywhere I go and with everyone meet.
5. Contribute to the world: I always create more than I consume and am generous with the excess.
Why do entrepreneurs drive themselves beyond normal human limits? Why do they shun idleness and instead work without counting the costs or tracking the time? The answer is quite simple. The entrepreneurial dream gives them the freedom to create their own vision and the passion to intentionally create it.
An entrepreneur understands one of the great secrets of life. True joy comes from seeing and then creating a dream in tangible reality.
Far too many just want life to be easy—stress free with no more frustration, overwhelm, and debt. These wounded wonderers want the money to be magically manifested so they can have the time and financial freedom so badly desired. They engage in escape and avoid fantasy and spend productive hours playing out vivid scenarios about what it will be like after the money has been received. As a result, the work required to actually create their dreams becomes boring, mundane, repetitious, and burdensome. Discipline suffers. Action is avoided. Dreams falter. Sadly, far too many are left broke, broken, and angry.
Entrepreneurs embrace the journey and find joy in the process of creation. They clearly see the vision, but their daily focus in on creating the millimeters between where they stand and where they are headed. For the entrepreneur, dreams are used to ignite passion and guide and drive action. Entrepreneurs want real money in a real bank account with which they can buy a real couch.
Can you feel the passion? Can you see the commitment and focus on intentionally creation? The entrepreneurial dream is the burning desire for freedom—freedom to create one’s own dream in tangible reality, whatever that may be.
