LA TAINADELSOL y MAR Cultural Healing Center is for activist, organizers, teachers, social workers, healers, artist, writers and YOU! Young girls and womyn and the LGBT community from all over the world on the front lines finally have a safe space to come to and take a much needed respite from social justice, to dream, to create, to heal and to dream of another world. I am creating healing spaces globally and this one is ready for you! Your very own space to heal from internalized oppression and violence, where you can be nothing less than your most powerful, sacred and creative self!
The place is beautiful, with an amazing rooftop area perfect for meditating, healing and just plain sunbathing! And the beach... Aaaahhhh.La Tainadel Sol y Mar is located on the beautiful sandy beach of Costambar,Puerto Plata. The beach is a minute walk from the house and is the perfect place for your next retreat site, organizational strategic planning meeting, board and staff development retreat, organizing retreat, creative writing/ arts getaway, sisterhood and family reunion or for a moment to breathe.
This healing space will give you the peace of mind needed to write, be creative, relax, vision and enjoy sometime to yourself where you can lay under the stars and drink coconut water falling asleep to the ocean breeze.
Launched the Month of March, this Cultural Healing Center is in honor of La Hermanas Mirabales and all young and adult women survivors of violence.
November 25 is known throughout the world as International Day Against Domestic Violence in memory of the assassination of Patria Mercedes Mirabal, María Argentina Minerva Mirabal and Antonia María Teresa Mirabal on the orders of Dominican Republic dictator Rafael Trujillo in 1960. Las Mariposas, the butterflies as they are known, unfortunately have become a symbol of both death and rebirth and the resilency that young girls and women have to rise above the many forms of violence in their lives.With a population of about 10 million, gender-based violence is the fourth leading cause of death among women in the Dominican Republic both at home and abroad.
The Dominican Republic is my birth place and I am both the product of and have been impacted by the many forms of integernational violence that poverty breeds in my country. It is my mission to support the eradication of this dis-ease in my family and community that I am raising funds to launch the first Cultural Healing Center in Puerto Plata, the Dominican Republic. In 2005, I dreamt of a healing space in my country. My mentor Esperanza Martell had me dream without borders 30 wishes and this was one of them. After working with womyn of color ending violence in our lives mind, body and spirit for the past 15 years, I decided that what I wanted to do was was create healing spaces globally. ITS HERE! Our very own space to heal from internalized oppression and violence, where you can be nothing less than your most powerful, sacred and creative self!

Why Puerto Plata? Puerto Plata is known for its calm sandy beaches, beautiful resorts and global tourists that vist it each year. What many do not know is that depsite its sunny exterior there is a storm of violence against women that is rampant and on the rise from prostitution to domestic abuse and sexual assault, women and girls are dying from its impact. Without choice I fear for my neices and nephews that have no choice but to hustle their bodies in search for another world.
