Well we are more or less settled in at the new farm location in Yorkville which is between Dallas and Rockmart. Our Great Pyrenees, Gabby has had a litter of puppies and we were blessed with NINE girls and one solitary male. They have just begun to waddle around and bark and growl.
I apologize that I haven't been able to return every email, hopefully we can get all the questions answered in one shot.
We are now back in full swing raising pastured/woodlot pigs. We are taking orders right now for WHOLE hogs ONLY. If you want a half or quarter, please seek out some like minded folks to split one with. It is projected that they will be at market weight (150 - 200 lbs) by the end of November. If you are interested in one that is around 75 lbs this summer for a barbecue this summer. They are $3.50/lb hanging weight and a $175 deposit is required to reserve each pig and the final price is paid at processing plus processing fees. The chicken CSA is getting close to full for May. We have to purchase the chicks ahead of time so we have to be conservative on the number we order for the very first couple of batches. The sooner you order birds for the year, the better we can plan for the rest of the year. These birds are $5/lb and a $10 deposit is required to reserve each bird. The schedule is posted On the Events page of our website and yes, some of the dates posted are actually Fridays. That is not a typo. Those are dates to pickup here at the farm, pickup will also be available at the old location on Barrett Parkway on the following date, usually Saturday but sometimes Sunday. Double check the calendar after receiving this email as I will be updating it posthaste to reflect these other pickup options. Pickup other than at the farm incurs a $2/bird fee. New Pickup Locations! We are now able to offer other pickup locations besides the farm and the Barrett location. If you are located in the East Cobb, Roswell, Woodstock area, you now have an option to pickup milk and chicken from Lauren Riley's house. Those of you active in the Weston A. Price Foundation have probably been to her house for one of the awesome classes she hosts. Please contact her directly to make arrangements, her email address is laurmerbr@gmail.com .
If you are on the east side of Atlanta or Inside the Perimeter, we will now have chicken or pork pickup available near Conyers and Morningside near Midtown. Details on these two locations are still being worked out but if you are interested in picking up chicken or pork at either one, let us know please!
Events and classes, will still be offered. April 18 we will be giving a Chicken Processing and Butchering class. The cost is $100 for participants and reservations can be made at https://squareup.com/market/east-west-farm/chicken-butchering-class.
New Facebook Group. We have set up a closed Facebook Group that will be only for farm members. As we are able to add more products, it will be from there that they can be ordered. You can request to join at this link, https://www.facebook.com/groups/EWFFC/
Unfortunately, eggs aren't happening right now. We're adding new chicks to increase the flock but it will take about 20 weeks to get them laying.
