Appezzato Earns DIII Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Scholar Athlete of the Year

Mahwah, NJ:  Junior Alexis Appezzato has been named the women's Scholar Athlete of the Year in Division III for the 2013-14 outdoor track & field season by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), the association announced Tuesday.

Scholar Athlete of the Year Awards are determined from among those who earned All-Academic status and placed highest in individual events at the NCAA Championships. This is the second consecutive outdoor academic honor for the Roadrunner track and field team, Michelle Favre won the award following the 2013 season.

Appezzato won an individual national championship at the 2014 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships. She threw a school record toss of 47.96 meters (157' 4") to take home the women's javelin national championship.

Brittany DalCais also earned earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors. She holds a 3.80 GPA and is majoring in economics. To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 and either competed at the national championships or finished the regular season in the national top 35.
