This weekend, Hutchinson is known by a different name: Smallville. Within the state fair grounds, people celebrate their favorite characters. But for one couple of characters, this weekend is a special edition.

Taylor and James Dixon, known by many as The Joker and Harley Quinn, have been cosplaying for years.

"I've been cosplaying for eight years, I've been doing it professionally for three." Taylor said.

It was two years ago, at a convention in Wichita, where a chance encounter would change both of their lives.

"That was my very first cosplay as Joker that day." James said.

"I saw him walking up to the con, and I thought, 'Oh my gosh that Joker is amazing. I leaned out the window and yelled 'hey Mr. J!' as loud as I could.'" Taylor said.

The rest, they say, is history.

They started talking online, and eventually became business partners - with a contract tying their characters together.

"We cannot perform apart from each other, ever."

Eventually, that partnership turned into something else.

"I said you're in love with me? And he said madly," Taylor said.

As James put it: "Stuff got real." So they needed a real wedding to officially seal the deal.

"I had told him a few weeks ago, hey let's get married." Taylor said.

And what better place to do it than at the Smallville ComicCon

"Surrounded by all of our friends and all these people that we love and who love us how could it be any more perfect." she said.

In front of a crowd of costumed characters, the pair said their vows. But for these two, this crowd is more than spectators.

"They're family," Taylor says. "Pretty much everybody here we've met, or they've been fans of ours for a while." They're all part of a community of like-minded people."

"We're sharing a common interest we come here and we get to support each other..."

All here to celebrate a shared love.

"We all love this. We all have spent our whole lives being nerds, outcasts, dorks," Taylor said. "And now as adults we're here and we get to embrace that side of ourselves without fear of being judged."
