FOND DU LAC - Former Green Bay Packers players Chester Marcol and George Koonce will be in Fond du Lac next week signing copies of their respective books.

Their appearance is part of Just B-Still and The Green Café’s Holiday Open House and Fondy Food Pantry fundraiser, which is planned for 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at 1211 Rickmeyer Drive, suite A.

“In order for people to do anything for the community, (people) need to be fed — they can’t use their God-given talents if they are hungry,” said Ann Sinisi, the owner of Just B-Still and The Green Café.

In an effort to garner attention for her fundraiser and open house, Sinisi reached out to a variety of cheese-themed star power. The party will include door prizes, a raffle, snacks and beverages and a collection of guest appearances.

Marcol, a former placekicker and Green Bay Packers' Hall of Fame inductee, will sign copies of his book “Alive and Kicking” from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The book covers his journey to fame and struggles that came as a result of it.

Koonce, who presently lives in Fond du Lac and works as the Vice President of Advancement at Marian University, will sign copies of his book, “Is There Life After Football? Surviving the NFL,” from 6 to 8:30 p.m. as well. The looks at the experiences of hundreds of former players and their lives after they leave the field.

In addition to Marcol and Koonce are “Cheeseheads: The Documentary” creator John Mitchell, purveyor of Packers fandom and big foam hat guy Jeff Kahlow of Big Guy Hats, and the creator of Cheesehead Poker, Robert Miller.

Chesseheads: The Documentary

Mitchell came through this area the past two years with the debut of his four-year project “Cheeseheads: The Documentary.” This educational story, told through comedy and cheese, looks at how Wisconsinites came to be known as Cheeseheads, how they embraced the term and what it means to be from Wisconsin. Featured in the documentary are many Wisconsin cities, businesses and famous people, including Marcol and Kahlow. Portions of the documentary will be shown throughout the event.

Kahlow, of Fond du Lac, known for oversized foam hats depicting anything from football players to massive fish to championship rings, is known to some as Frozen Tundra Man and widely recognized at Green Bay Packers games.

Miller introduced Cheesehead Poker in Kenosha in 2013, according to his website, cheeseheadpoker.com. A rummy-style game for two to eight players, it features three Wisconsin-themed decks of cards and 80 tokens.
