No matter how much we all loved "Weird Al" Yankovic's hilarious parody performance on last night's Emmy Awards, in which the famed comedy-musician sang a number of main title theme songs from some of our favorite television shows, it was apparently cut short.

Vulture reports that it was supposed to be much longer ... and include HBO's True Detective.

In the interview, Yankovic expressed that the original version was longer and held parodies of not only the favored Matthew McConaughey-Woody Harrelson HBO series but also Downton Abbey. On why the two were cut, Yankovic expressed, "It was a tight show, they had to cut it for time."

The fact is undoubtedly too bad because we would have loved to hear that True Detective bit. The "Tacky" singer notes that one of the lines read, "It was like Starsky & Hutch –– if Nietzsche had written it."

The Vulture interview also touched on how the idea birthed, which the Mandatory Fun musician claims was all because of Emmy (and Late Night) host Seth Meyers. "First, he DM'd me on Twitter, because I guess he didn't have my phone number," Yankovic says.

He adds, "He wrote, 'Hey, I wanna talk to you about doing something at the Emmys.' I was like, 'Okay,' and I gave him my number. My wife and I were on vacation in Hawaii, and we were on a black-sand beach. I was surprised we even got reception there. He called me and pitched me the whole idea about the TV theme-songs. I was like, 'Yeah, that sounds great, absolutely! We'll cut the vacation short and come back.'"

And while we wouldn't leave the black-sanded beaches of Hawaii, it appears Yankovic actually did.
