LIMMU SEKA SHINES BRIGHT ON THIS YEAR'S CUPPING TABLES
Coffee is political, from the household on up. And Crop to Cup has long-supported the underdogs in these battles. Similarly we commend the efforts of the International Women's Coffee Alliance (IWCA) to organize women-led chapters in growing communities around the world, and participate as we can (in Burundi, Uganda, Ethiopia & Brazil, for example).

We've been aware of Hyatudin and her work at Fahem Plantation in W. Ethiopia for a few years now. Perennially, their coffee(s) occupy a spot on our cupping table.  This year, we cupped both in Jimma and in Addis Ababa and were duly impressed by Fahem's washed Limmu (effervescent cardamom bomb).  While a visit to the 200 acre farm in Limmu Seqa wasn't in the cards for that particular visit, we're certainly looking forward to it when we return in November.

Limmu Seka is the next district north from Limmu Kossa (where we've worked with Kossa Geshe now for 3 years).  If Hyatudin's coffee is any indication, profiles from Limmu Seka seem to be a touch brighter, with more forward florals and big baking spice cup.  In many ways reminiscent of a Yirg profile.  We're excited to have such an excellent example on our offers this year from a Woreda we're just now getting acquainted with, despite 5 years in W. Ethiopia across many different districts.

This is a small lot (20 bags) that we selected this year.  I'd recommend cupping with the rainbow of other W. Ethiopian offers (Hunda Oli & Biftu Gudina, Girma Eshetu, Kossa Gehse, and Efrem Estate) that we've selected to build a mental map, and get your palate educated and calibrated to the many flavors of the West in Ethiopia.

Good coffee comes from good people. We believe that the farmer, exporter, importer, roaster and barista - everyone adds value to the final experience. We believe that the best way to get the best coffee is to invest in the people who help to make coffee special. We believe in the power of relationships. We believe that coffee builds relationships, and that these relationships give meaning to the trade that connects us. We believe that this connection can serve to educate your customers and engage your staff. We believe that roasters and farmers both want the same things out of their coffee, and that we all win by being the best customers we can be to the best farmers we can find.
