Woelf Dietrich has been nominated twice for New Zealand's Sir Julius Vogel Award for Speculative Fiction. His novella, "Babylon's Song," included in the anthology Interspecies: Volume 1, was shortlisted for the award in 2017. He mostly writes tales of dark fantasy and the supernatural which is maybe not such a far cry from his lawyering days. Sometimes he writes other things. He resides in New Zealand with his wife and kids and a dog. ...more

Ernest Hemingway
“Forget your personal tragedy. We are all bitched from the start and you especially have to be hurt like hell before you can write seriously. But when you get the damned hurt, use it-don't cheat with it.”
Ernest Hemingway

Alan Moore
“There's a notion I'd like to see buried: the ordinary person. Ridiculous. There is no ordinary person.”
Alan Moore, Watchmen

Patrick Rothfuss
“The truth is that the world is full of dragons, and none of us are as powerful or cool as we’d like to be. And that sucks. But when you’re confronted with that fact, you can either crawl into a hole and quit, or you can get out there, take off your shoes, and Bilbo it up.”
Patrick Rothfuss

Neil Gaiman
“Have you ever been in love? Horrible isn't it? It makes you so vulnerable. It opens your chest and it opens up your heart and it means that someone can get inside you and mess you up. You build up all these defenses, you build up a whole suit of armor, so that nothing can hurt you, then one stupid person, no different from any other stupid person, wanders into your stupid life...You give them a piece of you. They didn't ask for it. They did something dumb one day, like kiss you or smile at you, and then your life isn't your own anymore. Love takes hostages. It gets inside you. It eats you out and leaves you crying in the darkness, so simple a phrase like 'maybe we should be just friends' turns into a glass splinter working its way into your heart. It hurts. Not just in the imagination. Not just in the mind. It's a soul-hurt, a real gets-inside-you-and-rips-you-apart pain. I hate love.”
Neil Gaiman, The Sandman, Vol. 9: The Kindly Ones

Bob Marley
“Some people feel the rain. Others just get wet.”
Bob Marley
