"Let universal brotherhood be the highest of your religious order... Within all is a soul and that soul is God Himself who pervades all and everywhere...None is my enemy and I am enemy to none. No one is stranger to me and I am friend of all." (Guru Granth Sahib, Sikh Holy Scripture) This core message of equality and universal fraternity is the axis of Sikh Society. Even Emperor Akbar had to sit on the ground to eat langar (free food) while visiting the third Sikh Guru, Sri Amar Das in 1598. All are equal in the Sikh way of life.
