OZARK, Ala. (Baseball)-- With an 11 inning barn burner, the Paine College baseball team's season comes to a close at the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference baseball tournament on Saturday. The Lions fought valiantly to the end but lost the game on a Miles double play, 8-7.
Paine held the lead until the ninth inning when the Golden Bears tied the game up with a fielder's choice by James Gardner to score Jacob Schuster with the bases loaded, 6-6. Miles scored two more runs in the top of the 11th inning to take the lead, 8-7.
Paine came back up to bat in the bottom of the 11th inning and started to rally for the win.
Jalen Horton was able to come home on an error when
Adam Martin reached first base with fielder's choice, 8-7. The game ended when Ricky Carvajal hit into a double play with the bases loaded and
Adam Martin was tagged out on the play.
Quentin Alsbrook suffered the loss for the Lions with two innings pitched for one hit, two runs, two walks, and two strike outs.
Xavius Burden picked up the win for Miles with four innings pitched for three hits, one run, and seven strike outs.
With the loss, the Lions are eliminated from tournament play and end the season with a 27-20 record. Miles moves on in the tournament and improves 28-16.
