CMG – weapons and drugs located, Townsville

Detectives from the Townsville District and Taskforce Maxima executed search warrants in Townsville as part of Operation Lima Acquire targeting the drug distribution networks of Criminal Motor Cycle gangs.

Police executed six simultaneous search warrants at various addresses in the Townsville area including a tattoo parlour. These searches resulted in the location of cannabis, MDMA, crystal amphetamine (ICE) valued at approximately $20,000 and drug paraphernalia. Police also discovered weapons including a .22 calibre pen gun, knuckle dusters and approximately $20,000 cash.

Nine people were arrested on 32 charges including, producing and possession of dangerous drugs, possession of explosives, unlawfully keep restricted animal (snake) and possession of unlicensed weapons.

Detective Inspector David Nixon of Townsville District stated, “Today’s results demonstrate the commitment of our local Detectives in targeting the criminal behavior of these gangs and their networks. We will continue to target them until the offending behaviour stops.”

Detective Inspector Brendan Smith of Task Force Maxima stated, “This is a great example of how Taskforce Maxima and regional detectives work together daily to disrupt the networks of Criminal Gangs.

“The location of illegal drugs on persons operating a tattoo business, at their place of business, provides a clear example of the behaviour the new legislation (Tattoo Parlors Act 2013) is designed to drive from the industry.

“Regardless of where these gangs operate in Queensland police are committed to putting a stop to their criminal activities. Every weapon and every cache of drugs we take off the street is a win for the Queensland community.”
